Can you change settings in Explorer that does not apply to all folders.
I coming from Win XP to Win 8 with classic shell.
What I would like is when I open windows explorer I see the navigation pane on the left which shows me the whole tree of my PC. I know how to do this and it is about like win xp. But it then does this with everything else.
I would like to then click on my desktop shortcut for my documents. But then only see one pane without the navigation pane. Like what I am used to with win XP. If I delete the navigation pane it also deletes it from windows explorer.
Hope all this makes sense. So it seems I can figure out how to change folder options and apply the changes to all folders. But cant figure out how to do it and NOT apply the view to all folders.
Can I do this?
Thanks for any help.

The concept of Open vs Explore is gone after XP. The navigation pane can either be on for all folders or off for all. There is no difference between My Computer (or double clicking a folder on the desktop) and Windows Explorer, in any version of Windows after XP.

Thanks,
Not what I wanted to hear. But you saved me a lot more time trying to figure out a way to do something that I cannot. Just need to get used to the new way. Had been doing it my old way for 15 years.
