I'm going to apologize in advance as I'm sure the administration staff has seen this many times. I would like to say that I did search for this on google and on these forums so I'm not lazy, I just suck at finding things :/.

I am a Windows 8.1 user and I'm looking to replicate the Windows 7 Start button and search box (if those are actually separate).

I would really appreciate it if someone could either tell me what settings to mess with, provide an xml for the settings or point in the direction to find these.

Thanks for reading!

After installing classic shell (4.0 or above)
go to http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=174 and download the windows 7 start button
then right click your current start button, go to settings, under the "Start menu style" tab select Windows 7 style
then below that select custom button, pick image, and browse to the start button you saved from the link above

I don't think you understand what I'm looking for. I am trying to change the settings so it wiol act exactly like the Windows 7 star button. I don't need the icon.

If your talking about the button itself:
It should automatically default to left click, and windows key opening the start menu..
(but you can change that on the controls tab, by checking "Show all settings")

Are you trying to remove the users ability to right click on the button? Im not sure if this is possible

If your talking about the menu:
in what specific ways doesn't the 'windows 7 style' not act like the windows 7 start menu?

I believe you may be correct in me not understanding :P, and a specific example or 2 might be helpful.

You just need to install the Classic Shell Start menu and pick the Windows 7 style. Then click OK in the settings window. This will give you a true Windows 7 style start menu complete with the search box functionality. To change the button logo to the Windows 7 orb, use the image Jcee referenced above.
