Why can not you update about the update to Version 3.6.8, the version of Classic Shell 4.0?
Ialways get the message your Version is up to date.

Is the 4.0 version still a beta version?

In the Version 4.0 still lacks the language file for German.

Your question about update prompt is answered here. Once the dust settles with Windows 8.1 update, you will see the update prompt soon.


Since 4.0 has additional features, I presume the German language file needs to be updated for those features. Based on the Translations page, this is done by volunteers.

If you want to contribute a translation for German, please visit the Translations forum for more information.

Classic Shell 4.0 is RTM, stable, and safe for general use, it doesn't contain any major bugs. :) However the update notification hasn't been rolled out yet because of some minor bugs which affect certain specific users only. Once they get fixed, we can quickly roll out 4.0.1 and then everyone can get the notification.
