Hallo, long time no see. =)
Classic shell kept telling me before that a new upgrade was out ( 3.6.8 ) and I didn't feel that it was worth it to upgrade with not much it seemed added features. To my surprise though, a few days ago I decided to check the classic shell site, and 3.6.8 was not the latest version, but 4.0 was. So I decided to install this. It seems though after uninstalling I believe 3.5, and upgrading to 4.0, the classic shell menu is not appearing. I have windows 8, build 9200.

Btw, how come vista is no longer supported? That's almost like saying that windows 7 is no longer supported. I thought that they were very much similar?

Thanks!

You don't need to uninstall, you can install Classic Shell 4.0 over version 3.x. Did Classic Shell 4.0 install successfully without any errors, if not, then do a repair install. If it installed correctly, go to the General Behavior tab in Start Menu settings and make sure that "Start automatically for this user" is checked. If it still does not start, then see if you can run the Start Menu manually from C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe. Just create a shortcut to it in your startup folder.

Windows Vista is not supported because of the addition of:
1. Frequently used list (whose UserAssist algorithm changed in Windows 7/8 vs Vista)
2. Some Windows Search 4 APIs which are only available in Windows 7.
3. Some Windows Installer 5.0 features.
4. Very low usage of Windows Vista (4%).

It installed without any errors, yes. I was able to open the start menu settings before, but for some reason now nothing is happening, or opening even when I right click and run as administrator. I will try to install it again. I downloaded 4.0.2, and tried installing it, but it hasn't loaded explorer.exe back up, and it didn't close internet explorer either. I chose the option to not reboot and close the applications.

edit: The dialog was just hidden behind internet explorer. I had to manually close it to continue installation. Everything installed without errors again, however it's still the same as before. There is no start menu, and neither of start menu settings exe or start menu will open. Explorer settings opens fine though. I also rebooted without change. @.@

How come the logo was changed by the way too? The old one looked nicer in my opinion anyways, and the new one almost blends in being all blue.
Well, I guess I have resource hacker if I want to change anything if I wanted, though I'm probably too lazy to. xD

That's really surprising that not even the Start Menu settings will open. Do you have any other Start Menu replacements or Explorer modifications installed? They may be conflicting. Also check your antivirus and make sure it isn't blocking ClassicStartMenu.exe. If your AV has a feature to white list processes, include ClassicStartMenu.exe and Explorer.exe. Also try completely uninstalling, deleting everything from C:\Program Files\Classic Shell and reinstalling.

Microsoft's lawyers requested the logo to be changed to not resemble the Windows logo.
