Hope I'm in the right place. I've got an awesome new laptop coming tomorrow ... unfortunately with windows 8. I've been reading for two days to determine if I want to try and like it, or get to work by getting a start menu so I can attempt to set up access to programs I need and use daily like I've been doing since Windows 95. I've posted questions in some of the other program forums and never even got a response. Maybe it's a silly question, but I couldn't find anything about how to create folders in the start menu for my various groups of programs, like for Web Develp, Graphics, Video, Security Tools, etc etc, that will expand to shortcuts each program I choose to have in that group. The only way in Windows 7 I ever found to do it was have folders there, but I have to click on the folder to open up the shortcut folder, thus having a lot of stuff open that I don't need. What a great concept it was back in XP when you could hover over a folder in the start menu and a drop down offered all the programs related that you wanted.

But I'm thinking in order to stay productive, I may be wanting to use Classic Explorer and Classic Start Menu. Can this be done? From what I've read, Classic Explorer would keep me in the good old days to which I am accustomed.
Thanks
Tim

Yes, with Classic Shell you can add folders to the main menu, as well as have the Programs menu expand with sub-menus.

Are there some more detailed instructions that I"ve missed for adding folders to the start menu and creating sub folders for them?
Thanks
Tim

It should work just like in Windows XP. If you tell me exactly what you are trying to accomplish I can give you more detailed instructions.

If I recall then, I'd just open up Explorer, locate a folder for start menu, add folders and drag shortcuts?

Same works here. Double-click on Programs to open the folder in Explorer, add shortcuts and folders. Even shortcuts to folders!

Is there some instructions somewhere, I don't seem to get it. I'll go back and read the help files again.

You can also create folders directly from the menu itself instead of using Explorer. Right click in an empty area of the menu and choose "New folder".

I have no empty area, everything I hover over turns blue as a link, but doing it in File Explorer works great, thanks.

It doesn't have to be an empty area :) just that in an empty area of the menu inside All Programs, the context menu you get is cleaner/shorter. You can also click on any program shortcut inside All Programs and in the context menu, choose "New Folder". And then drag and drop shortcuts inside it.

Nice. You'd think it would be a built-in option in Windows. Thanks.
