Hi All

I'm having a strange issue.

I've got Classic Shell 4.2.4 installed on Citrix XenDesktop 7.6 servers, server OS is 2012 R2. On a few of the servers the users experience an odd delay when they click on the start menu icon. Classic Shell freezes for about 40-45 seconds and then it opens fine. As far as I can tell this only happens the first time the user clicks on the start menu after logging on, it works without any delay afterwards.

I've attached the relevant portion of the GPO, hope that helps. Also, the start menu is redirected to a network location for all users with another GPO. Tried to make the changes with Classic Shell as well but it made no difference

Any advice is highly appreciated

Thanks

The start menu needs to scan the programs folders before it can show for the first time. If you have many programs and your network is slow, the process can take a long time.

The two features that need all programs to be scanned are the "Frequent programs" and "Highlight newly installed programs". Turn them off and see if it makes a difference.

Also, since this only happens for some of your users, it may indicate network problems on your end. You need to profile your network access and see why they are getting worse performance.

Clearing the jump list seems to have resolved the problem, at least for now.

Thanks
