I am wondering if anyone has experienced this. I installed Classic Shell on a windows 8 64bit computer. It was not updated yet to service pack 8.1

The windows 8 system is setup to use windows live login.
I logged in as normal using the live ID
I installed Classic Shell
I rebooted
I tried to login again and I am getting invalid password.
I double checked, triple checked, it is the same password I have always used.
I tried using the onscreen keyboard to make sure the keyboard wasn't malfunctioning - still nothing
I logged into safe mode and was able to get to an administrator command prompt - my password worked here (this is a local account password)
Rebooted tried again to login still giving me the same error
I went to Microsoft's live sign in assistance and reset the password (just for the heck of it)..
I then tried to login again still no dice.

This did not happen until I installed Classic Shell. I was finally able to login once I did a system restore prior to Classic Shell My live login ID then resumed working again. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem using the Windows Live Sign in for Windows 8 with the original release of Windows 8.

None of the Classic Shell code runs before you log in.
Is it possible you were using a different keyboard layout, or you had caps on?

Unless Classic shell somehow changed the keyboard layout I do not see how. also caps lock was not on. I was only able to get back to regular system functionality by doing a system restore. The local password was not affected it was only the live login. But if you have live login enabled then windows will not let you in unless you can get past the live login prompt.

Their is nothing in classic shell that could have caused an issue upon reboot? The issue happened after installing classic shell and rebooting.

As I said, Classic Shell doesn't run until after you successfully log in. It is tied to the Explorer process.

Millions of people are using Classic Shell and I can only guess that a large percentage of them use Windows 8.1 with a live login (myself included). Nobody has reported such problem in the past.

Has anyone else had this problem ..... I am new to classic shell. I install on one customer computer with no problem. But this time after installing I am unable to login into windows. And yes I read the message that it does not install until after windows is booted. Just wondering if in an way this installation effected the login to windows ...

@niles meltesen, Classic Shell does not load until after you logon. So the problem seems to be unrelated to Classic Shell. Which version of Windows and what exactly happens? Are you getting a black screen?

I had the same problem when I upgraded to 4.2.4. When I rebooted and log back into an non admin user. It said invalid password. Then I login into admin user and I saw a message saying "Problem with windows all-user agent service not able to run." Then I uninstall classic shell and I was able to get login under the non admin account. I don't remember which version of the shell I had but I put in the 4.2.1 and I was able to get in again.

That's weird. No parts of Classic Shell are executed before you log in.

Sorry, the previous post is incorrect. Later I'm still having a problem. I have rebooted my machine a few times and I was able to login. I'm thinking it maybe windows updates that may have cause the problem for the login. Not sure at the moment. I'm only getting the issue of not login a on rare times now.
