I'm a long-time user classic shell. Just installed Win 10 and then CS (latest). Desktop icons gone, replaced by tiles!

I've never seen tiles on the desktop. Can you show a screenshot?

Post a screenshot. Tiles are not supported on the Windows desktop yet so what you may be seeing is the Windows 10 Start Menu. Also, the Desktop is not part of Classic Shell. If your Classic Start Menu is working correctly, then there is nothing to be fixed.

This looks like tablet mode. Click on the last icon at the bottom-right (can also be opened by Win key+A) and unselect the tablet mode.
