Hi, I hope someone can help me.

So my classic shell start menu is completely the way I want it - except for one thing.
I like having the icon frames on the start menu enabled. But the colour of the icon frames don't match my colour scheme on my start menu.
I have a black and red start menu but then the icon frames are purple. It's annoying.

Check it out in the attachment below. I want the icon frames to be red to match my colour scheme.

I've been trying to figure out how to change the icon frame colour for so long but have found no answer.

Please help.

Cheers,
Kaiden

The color of the frame comes from this line in the skin:
Main_icon_frame_tint1=$StartDesktopAppBackground

You can change it to a specific color, like red:
Main_icon_frame_tint1=#FF0000

Uninstall, then reinstall Classic Shell. The skin file will be restored.

You should not modify existing skins. Copy the file first and edit it. For best results place the file on the desktop and work on it, then copy it back. That's because the Skins folder requires admin access to write to and some resource editors don't handle that well.

I'll try that, thanks for your help. Originally I just gave myself access in properties of the skins folder.

I copied the skin to the desktop and edited it (changing that line to equal #FF0000) in notepad. I then copied it back to the skins folder and replaced the original file with the edited. It still didn't work though. I don't know what's going wrong. It just says "failed to load skin" like before.

I then tried doing it but instead of making replacing the original with the edited version I tried making the edited version a different skin by naming it "Metro1" when I went to see if I could change it to that skin in the classic shell start menu settings it still said "failed to load skin"

Is there any way to get around this? Will I be doomed to ugly purple icon frames forever? lol

Here - all I did was change the Main_icon_frame_tint1 to #FF0000. Now the frames are red.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it, although still no success. Still purple. I don't know what the hell is going on but I could swear I'm doing everything right. I'll just have to keep them the way they are I guess.

You need to download this file, put it in the "Program Files\Classic Shell\Skins" folder, then switch the skin to "Metro_red". Did you do all of these things?

Hi again, yep i did exactly as you said, downloaded it, put it in skins folder. Went to change the skin to metro_red in settings but the skin is not showing up in there. It's not showing up in the drop down skins list in the start menu settings.

For all other skins there is a .SKIN *and* a .SKIN7 file for each skin. I thought that might have been the problem so I also tried replacing the original metro.skin7 file with the metro_red.skin7 file and then changed the name to match the .skin file this also didn't work, failed to load skin error.

I also tried doing this and changed the line to #FF0000 in the .skin file so that both the .skin and .skin7 file said red for the correct line, this also didn't work, again, failed to load skin error.

And just now I tried it the other way round, adding the downloaded metro_red.skin7 to the skins folder and then changed the name of the metro.skin folder to match by making it metro_red.skin. This at least kept the skin and did not fail to load it in the settings, however the icon frames remain purple, not red.

It would make things a darn sight easier if there was just an option for changing the colour of the icon frames in the settings :/

Ah, you are using the classic style, not the windows 7 style. The skin7 files are for the windows 7 style.

I will make a classic skin later today and upload it here.

Oh okay, thank you! I hope it works. Although the weird thing is that I actually did change the regular metro.skin files line to red too and that didn't work? Anyway I'll try your uploaded one when you do it and see what happens.
