I work for a school system and we are using Classic Shell for windows 8.1, love the product but want to be able to set it so that students when they click the start button it only displays shutdown, logoff and restart.

This would be so helpful

You can right click the Start button -> Settings to begin customizing the menu as you want.

If you use the Classic styles, you can edit the menu items from the Customize Start Menu tab to keep only the shutdown commands you want. You can change their order and remove anything you don't want.

For Windows 7 style, there is a "Shutdown menu items" setting but it offers less customization compared to Classic styles.

Once you customize the menu to your liking, you can set the appropriate Group Policy setting to lock it down or edit the Registry. Look at the Administrative Settings section in the Help file for how to lock it down using the Registry.

See this topic on how to customize menu items & enforce them via Group Policy

The shutdown menu item only allows for one selection. I want it to display Logoff, restart and shutdown

Which Start Menu style are you using? Go to the Style tab and check that.

Does not matter what style is chosen. you can only choose one option.

I am asking which style you have set because the instructions are different for each style. :)

The "Shutdown menu items" setting is a text box where you can type the commands you want to be present. Hover over it with the mouse and read the instructions.
