When you have a App open and then left click on the Windows Icon (Start Button) it takes you to the Metro Start Screen, rather than the Classic Shell Start Menu - Is there a way to stop this?

So when you have a App open it will just open the Classic Shell Start Menu, it only seems to do this when a App is open.

Many Thanks,
James

I should point out something that I found too :

It work the first time you click the Start Button, but not if you click back on the app and click the start button again.

So for example :

1) Open App
2) Click Start Button - Classic Shell Menu Opens
3) Click back on App
4) Click on Start Button - Goes to Metro Start Screen

Does that make sense? I'd like it to still open the Classic Shell Menu in Step 4.

I don't understand what's happening. Can you please give the exact steps? In which environment are you clicking the Start button when an app is running? Do you mean on the Desktop and the App is running in the background and showing on the Taskbar? Or do you mean you are clicking the Start button while inside an App while it is focused/active? Are you switching to the Desktop and then clicking the Start button and it takes you to the Start screen?

Hi,

I probably should of mentioned that I am running ModernMix, which basically means the Apps open in a window rather than the fullscreen - but I don't think this would change anything.

So I'll explain what I am doing :

I'm on the desktop

1) Click Start, All Programs, Apps - then choose an app (For example Weather)
2) Weather App opens
3) If I then click the Start Button it takes me to the Metro Start Screen, rather than opening the Start Menu on the Desktop

Is it possible so when an App is open that you load the Start Menu from the Desktop (i.e. says Documents, Computer, etc) rather than going to the Metro Screen?

Many Thanks,
James

In which environment are you clicking the Start button when an app is running?

From the Desktop (i.e. not metro screen)

Do you mean on the Desktop and the App is running in the background and showing on the Taskbar?
Or do you mean you are clicking the Start button while inside an App while it is focused/active?

Due to ModernMix, I can have an App open in a window, and still see the taskbar and normal start button (so it is still in Desktop Mode) - See the screenshot below.

Are you switching to the Desktop and then clicking the Start button and it takes you to the Start screen?

Can you temporarily turn off ModernMix? It may be interfering with the normal operation of the start button.

Modern mix runs metro apps in windows Ivo
therefor without modern mix, his issue should not exist (no start button to click)

That said, I run modern mix, and the start button opens the start menu for me

If you attach your settings file, ill try to find out which settings may be interfering If Ivo doesn't have modern mix

Cant reproducing here;
Do you have latest version of modern mix?
what's your MMix setting for the "When Launched from the windows Desktop" option? Im using the middle one
also are any of the options on that page unchecked?

Try classic with 2 column to see if the issue persist
Try to check the 'replace start button' option

and lastly if all else fails:
http://www.displayfusion.com/
Display fusion also has a setting to convert metro apps to windows. It might solve the problem. (though I'm not suggesting you go out and buy it just for this issue, it does have a 30 day free trial if your interested in testing to see if it fixes your issue)
If-so then it sounds like modernmix is telling windows that your i

Thanks for the help!

Yes latest version of Modern Mix, I'm using the right hand one, but it did the same when choosing the middle one.

I've unchecked them all on that page.

I tried the 2 column and that didn't work.

I then tried the 'replace the start button' - and bingo it worked!!

So now I just need to find a logo that I like, and choose it!

Many Thanks!!!

James

Unfortunately the issue isn't solved!

It now seems random?!

Sometimes it will open the normal start menu, other times it will go to the metro screen...

I've just worked out what it is!

The issue is if you put the mouse right in the bottom left corner of the start button - so you can't even see it basically. So just move your mouse right into the bottom left corner as much as possible.

When the mouse is there, it will open to the metro screen when a App is open.

If you click anywhere on the start button (besides right in the very bottom left corner) it works absolutely fine, and loads the start menu.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Thanks,

James

Oh that 'bug' I recall it being posted on Modern-mixes forums; so ya know what they did? they fixed it in start8 (atleast thats what I heard) instead of in the modern mix. Even though to have the bug modern mix is required, and start8 isnt. Just another 'reason' to buy start8 for them.

Also are you running multiple monitors by chance?
because i was able to reproduce that bug, only on my secondary monitor (while the app was open on my primary)

I just assumed that feature was scrapped with the 8.1 update (since it includes the bottom left pixel anyways)

This is an issue with ModernMix. It also should have included the option to disable hot corners since it modifies the behavior of Metro, but it has no such option. Instead they included hot corner disable feature only in Start8.
