Is there a way to have the menu open automatically when the desktop opens instead of having to manually click on the Start button?

Create a shortcut:
"C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe" -open
Copy-paste it in the Startup folder. (C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup).

I am a Windows enthusiast and helped a little with Classic Shell's testing and usability/UX feedback.

Update. The shortcut works nicely, the menu opens, but --alas!-- it only remains open for about two seconds then closes. I have scoured the settings but am unable to find a solution to get it to remain open.

Yes at startup, the other apps that load often steal focus when they load and cause it to close.
