Is it possible to ever add a feature so we can add separators between menus in classic start menu? I don't mean the separator between the programs menu and other items that can be set in "customize start menu". I mean separators outside of the program menu for us that have the start menu folders outside of the program menu for easy access in classic start menu.

Basically what i'm asking for is something like separators in Firefox bookmarks.

The start menu shows the contents of the start menu folders. You can't have separators in folders.
Firefox keeps its bookmarks in a proprietary format and that's how it can have separators. Internet Explorer keeps its bookmarks as files, and therefore can't have separators.

That's too bad, but what if classic start menu made its own folders separate from windows start menu altogether? Who needs windows start menu anyway.

That would defeat the purpose of the start menu. Installers know about the standard folders and place their shortcuts there.

Yes but as an addition to that, making an option for those like me who don't use the windows start menu. As in copying all the files from windows start menu to a separate start menu in classic start menu. Can think of it as bookmarks toolbar of Firefox, it's separate from the rest of the bookmarks, showing in a toolbar for itself.

Well, if you are going to manually construct your menu by hand-picking the contents, you can already do this with custom items. Once you do that you are responsible for updating it when programs are installed and uninstalled.

Bottom line - if you want the contents of the menu to come from a folder on disk you can't have separators because folders can't have separators. If you want the contents to not come from a folder, then build a custom menu yourself with all the separators you want.

You need to use the Classic menu style. Then you can customize the entire menu from the "Customize Start Menu" tab, including the look and functionality of any item.

Now I've done a whole custom start menu, but the Classic start menu settings won't open anymore. When I had fewer custom menus it would start after 10 seconds, but now not at all.

Try opening Regedit.exe and export the registry key at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings

Works on my PC without any issues. Did you try right click -> Settings? Also try logging out of your user account, login again and then running the "Start Menu settings" shortcut at C:\Program Files\Classic Shell

In your settings I see Windows key opens set to Nothing and left click opens to Windows Start screen. This might be why you are unable to open the menu.

The context menu on start menu worked, but to make the custom start menu shortcut for Classic start menu to work I had to add its shortcut path in the command box of the shortcut, with a -settings parameter after it.
