Hi There!

Will classicshell work with Server 2012 without issue? Any caveats?

If not, anyone know anything which does?

I believe people have successfully used Classic Shell on Server 2012. It is pretty much identical with the desktop version of Windows 8, with some options turned on or off.

From what I hear, it has an alternative system to natively bypass the Metro screen and go to the Desktop, so you might want to disable the Classic Shell feature to skip Metro. However it is probably not going to cause problems even if left enabled.

I have not been able to get the shutdown/Logout menu to show up when using Remote Desktop. Does not show up at all when selecting the shell icon.

Any ideas?

Have you tried the setting "Show Shutdown during remote sessions"? It is at the bottom of the Special Items tab and is disabled by default (to match the default behavior of the old Windows menus).

Thanks, that solved it.

I am sorry I missed that one.

I am having this same issue on windows Server 2012 R2. I did not see "Show Shutdown during remote sessions" under the Special Items tab.

Has it been moved?

If you are using Classic Shell 4 or later, "Show Shutdown during remote sessions" is on the Main menu tab. You can use the Search box to search the settings. Type "remote" into the search box at the top of the settings dialog.
