Yes I agree, it has the potential to be simplified now. :)

I couldn't repro this either on Windows 7 SP1 x64 with Protected Mode off and UAC on 2nd level so it's up to kubikiri to provide the dumps now.

Pin to Start pins them to the Start screen. You will need to drag and drop them to the area or paste shortcuts in %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. If you want to add Pin to Classic Start Menu item to the context menu, follow the tutorial here: http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f...

Maybe the list got cleared? Check if "Show recent programs" is checked on General Behavior tab in Settings. You will need to run programs at least once before they appear in the MRU list of programs. Do programs not appear even after running them once? A screenshot would make things clear.

Thanks for reporting the bug. Do you have the Start button enabled on Windows 7? (check from the Start Button tab in Settings).

Note: 'Pin to Start Menu' is already built-in for Classic Shell 4.0 and later to pin EXE files and shortcuts. You do not really need to add this registry tweak for those versions for every day pinning of programs and shortcuts. However, this can be useful for users who are still using Classic Shell...

1. Right click the Start button and click Settings. From Basic Settings tab or Controls tab (if you are viewing All Settings), change "Windows Key opens" to "Windows Start Screen". 2. From same Basic Settings tab, locate a setting called "Skip Metro screen" and uncheck ...

Where are you moving the item from and to which location and on which Windows version? Are you doing right click and drag? How to reproduce your issue? Only items on the file system can be moved, maybe you are trying to move an item defined by a custom command from Customize Start Menu tab? To move ...

Yes it's possible. You can do that from Classic Explorer settings -> Backup button. Are you having a problem importing or exporting the XML file? You will need to copy over any icons and commands you specified manually. If you use environment variables in their paths, the same XML will work on most ...

Windows XP doesn't have power action icons stored in ICO format, but as images inside some DLL. You can find many free ready-to-use high quality icons at sites like iconfinder.com, iconarchive.com, findicons.com

Maybe "Show Log Off" setting got unchecked somehow? Check that on Special Items tab, although in recent versions, it's enabled by default. That must be checked AND logoff item must be present on Customize Start Menu tab.

If you have a kiosk, it means it's a touchscreen? Is it possible it runs Windows 8 Embedded. For that OS, the touch gestures have separate registry values. See if these work: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12415886/is-there-a-method-for-disabling-gestures-for-windows8 Of course, note that these ...

Are you organizing/moving files from the network? Windows 7/8 still create the Thumbs.db file on network paths and it may be locking the folders. You can also use the free tool Unlocker to see what is locking the file but beware of forcibly unlocking it using Unlocker, that is not safe to do always.

Btw, you can go to Ease of Access Center -> Make the keyboard easier to use -> and check the option called "Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys" to always show accelerator keys even when using the mouse. If you don't want to always turn them on, there's yet another way. Open the m...

You don't have to edit any skin to get small icons. Open Start Menu settings, All Settings, go to Skin tab and check the option "Small Icons". To get Downloads (or any folder), you will have to add it first. Go to Customize Start Menu tab, scroll all the way down and add a "Custom Com...

You can add any custom item to the Start Menu. Go to the Settings dialog and open the Customize Start Menu tab. Locate the "Custom Command" item at the bottom of the right column. Drag it to the left column and position it in the location you wish. This will create a new item named CustomI...

This is because Classic Start Menu searches Program shortcuts as well as all the EXEs in your system path. If you don't want path to be searched, go to Search box tab and uncheck the checkbox to search the system path. :)

Given that people do need to exit CSM and restart it, why not App Paths? :). It's a harmless improvement and users need to exit the menu for *some* changes definitely. In fact, while adding to App Paths, it can be shortened to CSM instead of "ClassicStartMenu.exe". It's easier for scripts ...

I agree. Most people's user name gets truncated easily and there is no newbie friendly way without editing the skin to make it show the full user name. The right column should either self-adjust or a slight smaller, thinner and more beautiful font like Segoe UI should be used to make all efforts to ...
