Hi guys. I have a bit of GPO experience, but there is a good chance I'm doing something wrong. Also, English is not my native language and some things may be crudely translated. Anyways, here goes:

I was tasked with making a start menu for our organization, preferably one that looks very similar to the one we currently have. Since our organization is currently on Windows 7, and wants to move to Windows 10, I decided that the Windows 7 style startmenu was the most suitable candidate for the job.

The way I wanted to go about this was the following. I wanted to make a "normal" user start menu for users without elevated privileges, via the "computer" option in gpedit.msc. For users with elevated rights, like IT staff, there would be a seperate GPO which I planned on configuring via the "user" option.

However, none of the GPO's apply when I try to do any of this. Not on the user part of the GPO's, nor on the system part, which is a bit odd.

But when I try to edit everything in the Classic Shell startmenu application itself, it works just fine!

I've copied the GPO's that are present in the Classic Start folder and copied them over to my PolicyDefinitions folder. This is a local machine, so no DC or whatsoever is attached.

Here is a screenshot of the current treeview for gpedit.msc: https://gyazo.com/7ac3c01d01aa17aed3177b7070ab0697

Anything to help this n00b would be very appreciated!

Did you try logging out and logging in again? Only then will the policy settings work.

See this guide: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3374 (How to customize menu items & enforce them via Group Policy)
