Re: Classic Shell / Classic Menu 4.3.0 Windows 10 1607.14393.223
Every program or App I run displays in Recent Items even though I have 'Don't show' ticked in Show recent of frequent programs of Main Menu.
Recent documents are being recorded correctly and sorted by extension, as selected in Special Items.
Would this problem result from a corruption of my installation of Classic Shell or a stuck registry key? If the latter, can it be set manually?
Any help / suggestions most welcome ~ thanks!

Can you provide a screenshot of where exactly they are showing? If Recent/Frequent is set to Don't show, it should not show. You might be looking at the "Pinned" area.

The data in this list is maintained by Windows, not by Classic Shell. If you open %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent you will see the items in Explorer too. It looks like Windows has suddenly started thinking the LNK shortcuts are documents and is showing them in the list. Since it is not a bug in Classic Shell but in Windows, there is nothing to fix in Classic Shell.
You could try this at your own risk, if you are comfortable with Registry editing. If you are not comfortable with creating and merging REG files, do not proceed.
1. Open Notepad and paste the following text into it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile] "EditFlags"=dword:00100001
2. Save it as "FixLnk.reg" (use double quotes when saving the file). 3. Double click FixLink.reg to merge the changes into the Registry. Approve the UAC prompt and click Yes to merge it. 4. Now right click "Recent Items" in the Start Menu and choose "Clear recent items list".
Thereafter any program shortcuts you open will not get added to this list.
