Hi dear reader,

On two of my Windows 7 computers the software works fine. The third one with the same OS, however, does load the program, but the start menu does not change and the settings user interface refuses to open.
I have tried all available versions, installed them as user and as administrator, changed the properties of directories and files, all of no avail.

There must be a simple solution for this problem and I look forward to any hint that leads me to that solution.
Thanks in advance for your kind attention.

Ardi

Is it possible that the exe is set to run as admin? It shouldn't be.

What does right clicking on the Start button and opening "Settings" from there do?

Have you by accident disabled the Settings using Group Policy or Registry Editor? Check in the Registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu to make sure there is no "EnableSettings" value and delete it if it's present and log out of your Windows user account, login again.

I have tried both options: admin and user, but neither worked. Process Explorer shows that the program is loaded indeed, but the start button remains unchanged. Right clicking on it doe not show the settings option.

When starting up in safe mode and running ClassicStartMenu.exe it not only loaded, but I could open the settings menu and make the required changes, which I saved in an xml-file. After the restart in normal mode those settings were not available again.

I have checked the Properties/Safety items of the directory and all files containing the ClassicShell program: Administrators, Users and the specific user of thet computer were entitled to full management.
I don't know what I should do now, apart from doing nothing at all. I still hope for the final hint from any reader of this conversation!

Thanks for the hint, but no, there is no "EnableSettings" value indeed.
