I'm using the latest ClassicShell on Windows Server 2012 R2.

I've added these three reg values to HKLM\SOFTWARE\IvoSoft\ClassicShell

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IvoSoft\ClassicShell]
"EnableStartButton"=dword:00000001
"SkipMetro"=dword:00000001
"StartButtonType"="ClasicButton"

But it's not taking effect. Users are getting the default settings regardless.

I also tried creating the key 'ClassicStartMenu' in HKLM\SOFTWARE\IvoSoft\ and putting the values in there, same results. Any suggestions?

The start button settings should work if they are placed in HKLM\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu
The SkipMetro setting doesn't work in the registry on Server 2012 R2. That's because it is a built-in Windows setting.

Hmm for some reason none of them stuck. I ended up going with the Policy Definitions method and that worked though.

I'm not sure, but could it have something to do with the misspelling of "Classic" in the Registry string: "StartButtonType"="ClasicButton"

No, that's not it. The setting is misspelled in code. It is too late to fix now because it will break the existing settings.

You must restart the menu after you add the relevant keys to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu
