In the version 4.0.4 released on Sunday, 19th Jan 2014, the policy definitions files got corrupted right before they were included in the installer because they are generated automatically as part of the installer creation. The correct files are attached here. Also, the installer is now updated so instead of downloading the ZIP below you can uninstall the earlier 4.0.4 release, re-download 4.0.4 and install the updated one:

To just get the fixed policy definitions, download the attachment:

I get an error on mine when trying to use policy definitions.

Encountered an error while parsing.

Expected one of the following possible elements(s), <text>, <decimalTextBox>, <textbox>, <checkbox>, <combobox>, <dropdownlist>, <listbox>, but found <multiTextBox> instead.

File

C:\windows\policydefinitions\en-us\ClassicStartMenu.adml, line 2208, column 32

This is on Windows Server 2008

Can someone please Help

Chris

Oh, you said Windows Server 2008. That's not supported anymore. The last version of Classic Shell to support Vista and Server 2008 is 3.6.8.

No, that won't work. The first version to support policies is 4.0.4.
Most likely the problem is that Vista doesn't support <multiTextBox>. Luckily only a couple of settings need that feature. You can try manually editing the text files and remove those settings. Look for "MenuItems1", "MenuItems2" and "MenuItems7".

The MenuItems settings control the custom menu items (basically the contents of the Customize Start Menu tab). There are 3 of them, one for each menu style: single column, double column, and Win7.
