I have attempted to install and use Classic Shell 4.0.0 several times now. Unfortunately it goes through the setup procedure then seems to quit. I am used to having a selection progress for the type of shell, etc. and an icon in the Task Bar, I'm getting neither. I then attempted to install v. 3.6.5, but I keep getting a "This program has compatibility issues" error message. I don't know if this makes a difference or not, but I just had Windows 8.1 Pro installed by a Microsoft Technician. I did have this program installed on my previous incarnation of W8.1. Can someone there offer a solution for me, please? I like Classic Shell and would not want to continue living if I didn't have it. According to the Technician, the version he installed was not available to the public, thought you might like to know.

I found this on your Forums list and was wondering, what is an incanartion?

Item #2. I wanted to make a donation to you, but the f**king Paypal is blocking everything and I was unable to find a way to turn the damn thing off. Can you offer some assistance with this? I hate Paypal and will NEVER use it again!

Are you saying that the version of Windows you have is not standard, or the version of Classic Shell?
Classic Shell before version 3.6.8 is not compatible with Windows 8.1. Version 3.6.8 is compatible but doesn't work very well. The recommended version to use is 4.0.2. Try downloading it from the main page www.classicshell.net

As for donations, currently Paypal is the only way. Enough people are asking me for alternative means for donations, so I might look into the Amazon payments system when I have some time.

Doesn't the installer show any kind of UI when you run it? Maybe your Windows Installer got damaged somehow. You could try extracting the MSI from the EXE using these commands: http://classicshell.net/faq/#install_commands and then try running the MSI file for your architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) directly.

I read Ivo's answer, but there is a major problem with the program. At first I was unable to download it from Gmail so I went to the Internet there were several Classic Shell downloads available and I downloaded several. There was a problem though, it kept coming back with an error message that the Setup failed. I got this error message on 99% of the downloads out there. I finally tried the link in the email again, it DID download, but install seems to be having a problem though. I have had a Classic Shell Setup window displayed for 20 minutes now, the Status bar is doing nothing. I'm going to bed now and I will see if it does anything over night. My hopes aren't very high though.:(
