Hi there

I love Classic Shell, this is the first time I've had a problem with it. I can't find anything about this problem on the forum.

In the last few days, when I try to right-click an icon on the desktop OR click anything on the taskbar, the whole screen goes purple for a few seconds and then it goes back to normal. Whatever function I'm trying to do doesn't work.

Eg. If I'm trying to open a folder with a link on the taskbar, the screen goes purple, then goes back to normal, but the folder I'm trying to open doesn't open.

Can you help please? There are certain things I can no longer do because of this bug.

Thanks :D

PS - I'm running Windows Explorer 8 and purple is my chosen background colour

Sounds like a context menu extension was installed recently and is causing a crash. Use the "How to capture crash dumps" link at the top and create a few crash dumps. Then attach here.

I have updated the crash dump instructions and added info on how to open a command prompt in that folder: www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6&p=8 Please check if the instructions are clear for you.

Hi again, I tried to follow those instructions and got the command prompt to work, but I wasn't sure if I captured the crash or not! I have 3 dmp files saved but it won't allow me to upload them here and I don't know how to zip them (I have JZip loaded on my computer but can't work out how to use it to zip up files, and I can't use the right-click function), sorry but I don't know enough about computers to understand this stuff! Can you offer advice please?
Thanks :)

No worries. We're here to help. I've updated the instructions again to include how to zip files.

Thanks for the new instructions, but classic shell crashes when I right-click, so I can't follow instruction #5 to zip files.
Sorry to be difficult! Can you tell me another way?

You can try attaching the files here without putting them into a zip.

The Home tab of the Windows 8 Ribbon Explorer has a button called "New item". Click that dropdown button and click "New compressed folder". When it creates a compressed folder (which means the same thing as a ZIP file), you can drag and drop the dump files over the ZIP/compressed folder to put them inside the ZIP.
