Dear Readers,

Customer has a Windows 2008R2 Enterprise TS server running as a VM.
Regularly we are called by them stating that the user's Explorer has stopped responding.
The user is no longer able to use the explorer or even logout of his own RDP Session.
We have to reset the user's RDP session so they can login again.

The server has Classic Menu and Classic Shell installed and they use it VERY MUCH (complete redesigned start menu with file links etc).

How can we solve this problem without de-installing Classic Menu / Shell as this is a 24/7 production environment.

I have enclosed 2 dump files.

Hope to get some helpful respondses.

Regards,

Franc

The dumps show that you have a very old version of Classic Shell, and also for some reason the start menu and the Explorer extensions are from different versions.
The start menu is 3.4.1 (5 years old) and Explorer is 4.2.5 (more than a year old). Try installing the latest version.

Something is very weird with ClassicStartMenuDLL.dll. It is still version 3.4.1, and is loaded from C:\Windows\System32, instead of C:\Program Files\Classic Shell.
I would recommend you use the Classic Shell Utility from here: http://www.classicshell.net/downloads to completely uninstall Classic Shell, reboot, then delete that DLL from the System32 folder, then install again.

Ivo,

Wil this preserve all the settings the customer has made?

Yes, unless you explicitly choose to clear the settings.
