hi , great product,

I have noticed that if i configure a policy for a user on windows server 2012, that the classicmenu ignores the policy .
eg if the policy says for the "start menu and toolbar" "remove all programs list from the start menu", classicmenu ignores that and all the programs are still shown.

Is there any way that classicmenu can obey windows policys? without it being too complicated.

The alternative is to not use classicmenu, but then we are left with windows useless tablet type interface.

While Classic Shell supports *some* Windows policy settings, it has its own Group Policy settings. Open C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\PolicyDefinitions.zip and extract the ADMX and ADML files to the right location.

For a single machine, to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions.
For a domain controller, to \\<yourdomainname>\SYSVOL\yourdomainname\Policies\PolicyDefinitions (Older Windows Server versions may store policy templates in \\yourdomainname\SysVol\yourdomainname\Policies folder).

There is a Group Policy setting called "All Programs style" which has a Hidden option. After you set it, you must log off and log in again.

thank you for that, the definitions to lock things is good. Although,
What I notice is that "control panel" can be locked, thats good, but the "administrative tools" for windows is still available for all users.
The administrative tools really has to be hidden for all users except admin.
So apart from manually deleting that shortcut folder in the menu for each user,

is there a way for the policys in classic shell to get "administrative tools" hidden?

You can make the folder hidden. This will remove it from the start menu.

Thank you for all the tips on this forum! I just recently started using Classic Shell and have a XenDesktop 7.x project using it.

Would you explain how to "hide" the Administrative Tools? Also the "Startup" Folder displaying in the Classic Shell windows 7 style. I'm using v4.3.0

Right click Administrative Tools folder and click Properties. Check the "Hidden" attribute checkbox on the General tab and click OK. Confirm any UAC prompts. You might have to do this twice since there are two Administrative Tools folders - per user account and All Users.
