Hello

I have a relative I am trying to help out via Team Viewer who has an issue in that Classic Shell and Win 10 appear to both be active at the same time.

This is causing issues with accessing the desktop.

As I said.. I am trying to help remotely on this to avoid having to drive 20 miles

This did happen before and the only resolution was to to a System Restore which solved the issue..

However.. it has now happened again.

Is this as known issue?

Are there any resolutions?

Thanks

AP

What do you mean "active at the same time"? Do they both show when you click on the start button?

Possibly multiple start menu programs are installed at the same time? That's not allowed.

If you can take a screenshot of what you mean by "active at the same time" it will be helpful. When Classic Shell is installed, the Classic Start Menu does not disable or eliminate the Windows menu. Depending on your settings, both can be opened, just not opened at the same time. Go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features and make sure no other Start menu software is installed. A screenshot will really help us understand what's going on.

Thanks for the reply....

Unfortunately as i am trying to assist the relative via TeamViewer I do not think I will be able to get a screen shot of this any time soon.

However I will be driving to see him next week.

In the meantime I know for sure that there is no other Start Menu installed.

What I can say is that the Win 10 Start menu was visible all the time behind classic shell.

I believe this happened after a Win 10 update.... as this previously happened when Win 10 was updated... so at the time I could only do a restore back to just before the update a few weeks ago.

It looks like the update has taken place again and caused the same problem....

Will know more next week when I see the pc myself....

Thanks

AP

Also make sure that the latest version of Classic Shell is installed. Due to Windows 10 changing frequently, there might be incompatibilities introduced with very old Classic Shell versions and newer Windows 10 builds.

Was the Windows 10 start menu full-screen, or in the corner? If it takes the entire screen, then most likely the PC is in Tablet mode. Press Win+A and turn off tablet mode.

This could possibly be the case...

When viewing remotely via TeamViewer you dont get an exact visual replication .. such as the background going black....

The trouble is that the person I an trying to help is 85 years old and has little knowledge and comes to me for help when things dont go smoothly.

Until I go and see the machine face to face I wont really know what is going on....

In fact I did phone him today and he said that he has now lost the taskbar  so cannot access anything at all.... I may dust down and old XP machine and get him to use that instead....;)

Thanks for your input
