In Windows 7 and earlier versions, newly opened Explorer windows that are not maximized will "helpfully" reposition themselves to overlap the last used location rather than fully overlay it. Perversely, it will do this even if there is no (longer) Explorer window already in that location!

Can this behavior be disabled, such that new windows open precisely in the last used location and not overlapping it?

That is appreciated as an interim solution, but I'd prefer having one less separate blob of code to fix aberrant Explorer behavior. I have so many separate blobs of code to fix aberrant Windows behaviors now that it makes me dizzy.

Addendum: I installed this utility, but Explorer windows still automatically overlap for me.

In painful hindsight I don't appreciate the suggestion. That is a severely ill-behaved blob of code that fully crashes Explorer constantly for actions as benign as right-clicking on a desktop file. No wonder its only source is another forum post. Please do not recommend it to anyone else, even as a temporary solution.

I reiterate my hope that Classic Shell can be expanded to make this unhelpful automatic overlapping configurable.
