I recently obtained a new computer with windows 8.1 on it and installed all updates. I installed some software and the progress bar worked as it does on older versions of windows.
I then Installed the latest version of classic shell (downloaded last week). Ever since then the progress bars on any software no longer work. They simply get about halfway across the box (indicating slightly less than 50% installed or other progress) and then stop. As a consequence I have no idea when software with a progress bar has finished. Any suggestions, or is this actually a bug?
I actually did a factory reinstall of windows 8.1 and repeated everything, this time not changing any defaults on Classic Shell, but with the same problem. The progress bars never get past about 50% progress, even when programs are finished.
Any suggestions?
thanks,
JAE

It is very unlikely for Classic Shell to affect any arbitrary software. Try uninstalling it to see if the problem disappears.

Thanks Ivo. I had already tried uninstalling and installing Classic Shell, but the same thing happens.
(Note that I also tried wiping the disk and doing a factory reinstall of windows 8.1 and Classic Shell as well as reinstalling Classic Shell on the same installation-twice. Same result. Perhaps it is just the way my
new Dell Precision 7810 works). But this only happens with ClassicShell installed. If I uninstall it, the progress bars work, and stop again after ClassicShell is reinstalled. Any other suggestions?
thanks,
John

OK. Then try to uninstall just some components, starting with Classic Explorer. It is the part that has some interaction with other software (for example to display a special icon for shared folders). Then do Classic IE.
