When using the start search, if you type something in and hit enter before it gives a result menu (or just something that has no result), it crashes explorer. Happens every time, should be easy to recreate. Can make a video example if desired.

Capture a crash dump as described here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6
Zip it and attach it to this thread.

OK, looks related to auto-complete. This is a crash somewhere inside the Windows code that has been reported in the past. I don't know what is causing it though, or if there is a workaround.
You can try disabling the auto-complete from the search settings.

Ivo!
I followed your advice and disabled auto-complete. And! ta-da! Problem is SOLVED! No crashes, no freezes. Everything is OK.

hadji! You can follow Ivo's advice and disable the auto-complete from the search settings in the "Search Box" tab - it works.

Thanks for your attention,
Best regards,
Sorokin Ili'ya.

Thanks for the solution, and to iluxxa for posting dumps. Been a bit busy lately and hadn't gotten to it.

Don't mention it, hadjii. Was it helpful? Did it solve your problem?

Seems to have done the trick. I kinda trained myself to delay hitting enter until a result shows, but no crash if I jam a bunch of random characters into it and hit enter.

I have an even better workaround and further information on the problem. Simply untick the "Search Control Panel" option in the Search Box tab of Classic Shell settings. This will return functionality and stop the Explorer crash.

Steps to reproduce crash:

1. Enable "Search Control Panel" option
2. Enter one or more characters in the search box in Classic shell
