Please tell me how to fix this - the search box does not throw up windows features or
other programmes I know are there. For some reason it found calc.exe when I entered "calc", but not windows update, (when I entered "update") for example.

It has worked fine in the past, but since I restored the previous settings (which did not have the problem) on a new PC, this problem has appeared?
By the way, there is no way to search for this topic, since all the words are automatically removed by your web site search rewriter!

If the exe is in the system PATH and if you have the "Search the system path" setting checked then it will be found.

Open Classic Start Menu settings and go to the Search box tab. Make sure that everything is checked there and Windows indexing is running.
