I like Classic Shell on Win 8 and want to use it at a site that has a number of Win 8 PCs on a MS domain. Ideally I would like to set menu setting with Group Policy or worst be able to modify the installation defaults so they are set as I want them for all users. Are the current settings saved in a file somewhere or in the Registry?

Classic Shell settings are per user and are stored in the registry at HKCU\Software\IvoSoft. By default, every user can edit all of his settings. An administrator can lock specific settings by copying the same setting which exists in the HKCU\Software\IvoSoft branch to the HKLM\Software\IvoSoft branch, so no user can edit them and they get locked in the Settings dialog UI. There is also a global value supported in HKLM called "EnableSettings". Set it to 0 to fully disable the Settings dialog. So it's only a matter of exporting and merging the reg. :)

No, the settings must go in \Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu key.

Classic Shell 4.0.4 introduces Group Policy support for its own settings. The file, C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\PolicyDefinitions.zip includes the policy definitions. If you have an Active Directory domain, extract the files to %logonserver%\sysvol\%userdnsdomain%\policies\PolicyDefinitions\ or whatever your Group Policy Central Store is. For Local Group Policy, extract them to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions folder.
