Tried to install a simple freeware file shredding utility on my Win7 64 system: http://www.fileshredder.org/. The install process hung as it tried to register an addition to the Windows File Explorer context menu (the install never completed successfully). Attempted uninstall of the utility had similar problems. Completely uninstalling Classic Shell fixed the problem - I was able to install the other program, after which I was able to re-install Classic Shell, the added context menu item remained. Seems like Classic Explorer might be preventing other programs from installing File Explorer context menu extensions. Is there any way to temporarily disable Classic Explorer without having to perform a complete uninstall of Classic Shell? Thanks! |

You can disable the Explorer addons from the IE "Manage addons" menu. Basically do the opposite of this: http://classicshell.net/faq/#explorer_toolbar However registering a shell extension usually does not involve running Explorer (I don't know why it would need to), therefore disabling the Classic Explorer extensions should not make a difference. |

Hi Ivo, The problem is not with Classic IE. I'm pretty sure the problem is with Classic Explorer (for Windows File Explorer, not IE). I think your post talks about disabling add-ons for Classic IE. I was hoping to find a way to temporarily disable Classic Explorer (which is extension for Windows File Explorer). Thanks, LRC |

Both, Classic IE and Classic Explorer are enabled/disabled from Internet Options -> Manage Addons. |

OK, thanks for that clarification. But the real issue is why Classic Explorer interferes with the install of the other software. |
