Post subject:  empty DVD ejecting  Topic is solved

I am one more of those poor-old MS-Windows users who still use PCs mostly for work and productivity. After a HDD crash I decided to give a try to Win7 Ultimate 64bit at my home PC, as I was really boring to setup once again XP. Everything went nice and easy - all my devices were recognized by the OS after Windows Update (+1 for MS) ... and this is the end of the good news. The new design of the Start menu and the Vista-concept for the WinExplorer made me insane! I planned a dual-boot installation of XP/7 *BUT* I stepped on a reference to your app just before I start it. Now I am enjoying again my PC with all the functionality that MS sacrificed in the altar of mobile devices! THANK YOU!!

Just a little annoyance (I am not sure that it is a bug): when I use the keyboard at the left pane of Windows explorer and I reach the empty DVDwriter device, it ejects. Is there any way to avoid this? It is a minor issue.

Motherboard > Asus P5Q3

DVDwriter > TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223C ATA Device

The DVD burn component ejects the empty drive prompting you to insert a blank DVD. I know that's retarded, but that's how Windows 7 works.

You can do one of two things:
1) Disable the "Auto-navigate to the selected folder" setting. This will prevent the drive from being selected
2) Disable the burn component. Here's how: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/59 ... sable.html

Hello guys... is there any way to create a new custom button with "DVD Elect/Insert" option?
Like the command of the "right click" on the drives we have in windows.

Thank you.

no computer should be without nircmd

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html

download it and place it in your C:\Windows directory

Right-click Classic Shell>Settings>Customize Start Menu tab
Scroll to the bottom of the left column and drag "Custom Command" over to the right column where you want your button to appear..

rightclick the new CustomItem and click "rename" name it "EjectDVD_F" without spaces, changing F to the letter of your dive, if you have more than one

Right-click it again and click on "Edit Item"

in the top "Command" field, type: nircmd.exe cdrom open f: (change f: to whatever your dvd drive letter is)

Right-click the "..." after the "Icon" field and browse to an Icon you like

Click OK and OK again to exit settings

i cant find one for open & close, so close needs a button of its own, with the same command, but change open to close, as such:

nircmd.exe cdrom close f: where f: is the letter of whatever your own DVD drive is

I have this app in my "c:\Programs" folder...
(EJECT 2.02) http://www.brothersoft.com/eject-6300.html

My DVD-drive is "H", so I created 2 desktop shortcuts as you can see in the image attached.

I am not sure if there is a way to create a script that activates "open" if the drive is "closed" and vice-versa, so only 1 shortcut will be used. I am so used to these 2 icons that I do not care anymore ;-)

Tested under Windows 2000/XP/7.

Note also that EJECT.EXE is less than 12kb unzipped.

Post subject:  Re: empty DVD ejecting

cool, I just use the Nircmd version since its already on my system for other reasons, and its a pretty useful tool.. actually i think i used it for volume control & mute functions when I was using a keyboard without built-in volume buttons . and i just love nirsoft stuff...

but nircmd is pretty versatile

who makes eject.exe? and what other little things have they made?
