I have a folder with 10 file shortcuts of songs, viewing them as medium icons. In XP I can arrange those icons in any order and in any space in the folder. Basically I'm setting the order of the songs as they will go on a CD and want to hear them in that order. Of course I can move all these shortcuts to the desktop and do this, but I like the versatility of doing this inside a file folder. I was told that Classic Shell will do this. But I see no way to accomplish this. Any suggestions?

Classic Shell does not have any tweak to allow folder items to be rearranged but Folder Options X will help: http://free-sk.t-com.hr/T800soft/softwa ... ptions.htm. Check the option "Enable icon reordering". Also, after you enable it, you must close and reopen the folder and check "Auto arrange" from the View menu of the folder. Thereafter, you will be able to reorder the items and the order will persist even if you close the folder.

Note that this order doesn't affect the order of songs when you put them on a CD.
