I'm slowly but surely trying to alter the terrible Windows 8 UI. I have Windows 8.1, but I have an issue with the sort columns that I can't find any information about. I have the sort columns option check, and they show up fine in Explorer. But the problem is that the sort columns don't show up in the save/open windows in browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox, and probably in other problems too. I'm often quickly switching between sorting by file or date modified when saving or attaching files. Is there any solution to adding sort columns to these windows?

Maybe there is a way, but not with Classic Shell: http://www.classicshell.net/faq/#explorer_saveas

Injecting the Explorer DLL into other programs as Ivo linked above would be risky from a stability perspective. You can right click on a blank space to get a menu that includes "Sort By".
