I'm using win7 64bit and a custom visual style that doesn't work properly with Classic Shell. Look at the screenshots below, one is my desktop, which shows that the explorer skin is working fine, but not the start menu and taskbar. The other screenshot is what the theme should look like. I have tried all the custom skins within Classic Start Menu settings with no avail. I remember a different theme wasn't working with CS either.

Classic Shell comes with its own skinning system. Custom visual styles are not supported at all. You can create a Classic Shell Start Menu skin using Resource Hacker similar to the one in the visual style and it will forever work and look the same across all Windows releases.
