Hi guys,

I can not remove following items (see picture marked red) in the Windows 7 Design Startmenu under Windows 10.
I am using active directory GPO User Settings but can not find any entry to remove :-/

Items are User, Documents, Pictures, Music, Games, Recent, PC-Settings, Default progams

Any ideas how I can remove it?

Thanks and greetings,
Tobi

You must use the Customize Start Menu tab of the Start Menu Settings GUI to remove them first. Then export the registry values from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings: MenuItems7 reg value.

Copy them to the policy setting called 'Menu Items for The Windows 7 Style'.

After the policy setting is in effect and the Start menu has been restarted, the changes should take effect.

Hi Gaurav,

so, firtly thank you for your fast reply.
Did I understand it correctly?
1. Customizing local on the win10 desktop machine.
2. on this machine in registry export the values in values.reg file?
3. "These settings copy to the policy settings" means exactly? Activating the settings in Regfile under the GPO Setting Menu Items for Win 7 Style - So I must set the path to the reg file?

Thanks and greetings,
Tobi

1. Yes customize on local machine
2. Open Regedit and go the earlier mentioned Reg key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings)
3. Double click the MenuItems7 reg value in the Registry and copy its value data to the appropriate (corresponding) policy setting called "Menu Items for Windows 7 style".

Hi Gaurav, thank you very much. It works :-)
Great support here.

I have have one more question.
In Windows Explorer the office user is able to klick on settings and can administrate the PC network etc. How can I remove it from the menu bar in windows explorer? Can I fix it with classic explorer GPO? See picture below.

Thanks and greetings

There's only a global Windows policy setting: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel: "Prohibit access to Control Panel and PC settings". Even Win+I directly and easily opens Settings so unless Settings app is prohibited at system level, suppressing it only via Explorer would be pointless.
