I had to have my computer wiped. They backed up a lot of my data onto an external hard drive but now my settings for my classic shell are lost.

How do i recover my old settings?

It can only be recovered if the backup on the external drive includes the Windows Registry. Or did you save an XML of the settings?

Otherwise you might have to set it up again.

Not sure. I'm not very good with computers, but managed to install it and set up some settings I really liked. My computer was wiped, and everything was saved.

What could I do to find it?

If you not an advanced user, it might be hard for you to recover it by loading a Registry hive (after finding if your Registry is backed up). But if you are willing to proceed, I can give you instructions.

Basically, just see if your backed up data includes the folder: C:\Windows\System32\config with a file named "SOFTWARE". If it exists, then it's easy to retrieve Classic Shell Registry settings.

Otherwise, it's better to set it up again. Once you have everything customized as you want, you can click the Backup button and save all settings to an XML file.
