First, hello. Great program and great forum! Second, have you ever just been pissed enough that you put WAY too much time into something that you shouldn't have? Well that's what I've done for almost 2 hours and haven't been able to solve my problem...

Long story short; I have win 7, used the CS and got everything just so, and made an image. Had to format, installed the image, and there was a setting or two I added after I made the last image.

So, the start menu is way too big. Yet when I click the options under skin to use small icons, it's way too small. Now I know before the format it wasn't this big, and if it was, I was able to simply use a setting to get it smaller. Worse yet is this is a laptop, so when I go mobile it takes up even more space.

I've googled the hell out of this too and haven't had any luck. And I know it's not me because one, I would have been here months before asking if it was possible to make it smaller, and didn't because somehow I did. And two, I switch between the 7 laptop and an XP desktop and the difference in size is very clear.

So sorry for making a problem like this into a novel, but almost two hours later I would love to be able to fix this. Even if it's something I've missed or dumb, I'll just be happy if its done. Thanks for your time!

The default size for the large icons depend on the DPI setting. Maybe you have a higher DPI now than before.
If you don't like the size, you can change it from the Menu Look tab in the settings.

Hi yes, I saw that section, but I don't remember tweaking it before, and it's not even darker the way CS shows the changes you've made compared to the defaults.

But at this point I'd do it anyway, but I didn't see anything for the height, which I want to adjust as well. And when I adjusted the width it doesn't seem to change. Like I upped it to 120 and nothing happened, and only when I went down to 10 or 20 did it get smaller.

What I'm mainly looking for is for everything to be smaller, obviously, but also proportionate, like in XP. And like I said I knew I had it like this before because I would have googled it for hours back then!

Either way thanks for the help!

EDIT: Okay, I was able to affect some change with the main menu and submenu width. Tell me, what is the default... I had 60.

So I think I'm there, but still would like to adjust the height if possible... Thanks again!~

What setting are you changing? You need to tweak "Large icon size".

Hey, I just added an edit up top but I'll just ask here, if you don't mind of course... What are the defaults for those sizes?

Depends on the DPI. Hover over the setting and the tooltip will tell you.
It is 16 and 32 for DPI<=96, 20 and 40 for DPI<=120, and 24/48 above that.

Hey, thanks for the help... I was able to adjust the horizontal settings but not the vertical. Is it possible to adjust it vertically? And also make the name and icon smaller?

Crazy I know but I'm telling you I remember it being smaller like XP and proportionate. And my name and icon is so much bigger too!

Please include a screenshot. I have no idea what you mean anymore :) Include a picture of what it is right now and what you want it to be.

Hey, thanks for the help... Attached are two screen shots, one from the XP desktop and one from the 7 laptop.

Hopefully you can see the difference... And again, I know this is crazy, but if it can be fixed I'd like to at least try... But I still remember doing something!

The Classic Shell menu has more padding around the items to allow for the more intricate selection highlight. Also Windows 7 uses a different font than XP (Segoe UI vs Tahoma). Both fonts have different metrics.

If you want to get the EXACT style menu as XP you will have to edit the skin yourself. The setting you need is Main_icon_padding. By default it is "3,3,3,3", which means to add 3 pixels on each side of the icon.
