Sorry if this has been asked before. I didn't see it anywhere but it is a long list .... Anyway, I have recently installed Classic Start Menu and really like it a lot. However, I have encountered a roadblock while trying to customize what seems to be a rather straightforward part of the display. When I click on the "Program" directory or any subprogram directory, all of the directory icons are displayed with the plain tan "folder" icon. I would like to change those icons to match the icon for the actual program. I have tried right clicking on the icon and then choosing the Properties tag followed by the customize tag which has the option to change the icon. However, when I select an alternate icon and apply it then save the result, the displayed icon remains the old icon. Curiously, the icons for the actual programs in the directories are the actual icons for the program. THis happens even when the active user has Administrative privileges. Any suggestions on how to change the icons for these directories? |

Ever since Vista, changing folder icons in UAC protected locations like the All Users Start Menu is broken because the icon changing dialog does not elevate as administrator. Instead, I use a program called Microangelo OnDisplay to change icons. It is a paid app but you can install the free trial/evaluation version: http://server3.fiberdownload.com/1_kits ... 0-eval.exe and change all your folder icons before the trial period is over. Its folder icon changing feature works (right click a folder -> Appearance). It elevates as required and always does the correct desktop.ini modifications. Then even after the trial expires, the folder icons remain as you set them. Note: Classic Shell is not responsible for anything that happens to your PC from recommended third party software. |
