I have a friend who's computer I helped to install back in 2011, it had Windows 7 x64 Pro and has been upgraded to Windows 10 Pro; she's been having some odd problems which I've mostly worked out but after the Windows 10 Anniversary update Classic Shell was disabled or removed (it had been installed and working previously), I downloaded the latest 4.3.0 but when I went to install it I got the error message "Classic Shell requires Windows 7 or later" and this computer clearly has Windows 10.

What's the problem and why can't I reinstall the latest Classic Shell on this computer?

Look at the compatibility settings of the installer (in the file properties in Explorer). See if there is a setting to use compatibility with older version of Windows.
I think last time somebody reported such problem, they were launching the installer from TotalCommander or some other such tool. If that's the case for you, try running directly from Explorer.

Thanks, I have no idea what the problem actually was but when I deleted the existing install file and downloaded a new copy which installed without that error.

Thanks for all your hard work!
