Thanks, I have no idea what the problem actually was but when I deleted the existing install file and downloaded a new copy which installed without that error.

I have a friend who's computer I helped to install back in 2011, it had Windows 7 x64 Pro and has been upgraded to Windows 10 Pro; she's been having some odd problems which I've mostly worked out but after the Windows 10 Anniversary update Classic Shell was disabled or removed (it had been installed and working previously), I downloaded the latest 4.3.0 but when I went to install it I got the error message "Classic Shell requires Windows 7 or later" and this computer clearly has Windows 10. What's the problem and why can't I reinstall the latest Classic Shell on this computer? |

Look at the compatibility settings of the installer (in the file properties in Explorer). See if there is a setting to use compatibility with older version of Windows. I think last time somebody reported such problem, they were launching the installer from TotalCommander or some other such tool. If that's the case for you, try running directly from Explorer. |
