Good Evening to you all, I hope someone can offer some help?
I have recently had some strange behaviour start with my Start Button! There is a Dreadful Lag, some 3 seconds between the 1st Mouse (Left Click) to the Opening of the Start Menu.
The delay causes me to 2nd Click the mouse and then the Menu Opens and Immediately Closes.
Any Ideas please would be helpful, as this 3 second delay is driving me BONKERS?

Follow the instructions here: viewforum.php?f=12 to capture a series of dumps and upload them here.

Sorry, I posted the wrong link. This is the right one: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6
Basically you need to download the ProcDump tool from here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... s/dd996900
Then open a command prompt in the folder where the tool is and type "procdump -n 10 -s 1 explorer.exe". Press Enter, and then very quickly click on the start button.
This will save 10 DMP files. Zip them up and attach there.

Hi Ivo, I noticed this happens only when Windows Defender is enabled. If any other AV is installed, this lag doesn't happen.

I have excluded the entire Classic Shell folder in Windows Defender but it doesn't help. The lag happens upon every restart it's very annoying.

I am checking daily for Classic Shell updates hoping this issue would be fixed since more than a month but it's been on v4.2.5 for ages.

Chances are high, your specific issue wont magically be fixed in the next version, unless it can be narrowed down and replicated.
Me, and most others are running classic shell on windows 10 with windows defender aren't having issues

That crash-dump procedure, is what he uses to help narrow down the specific incompatibility.

Also, try turning off real-time protection (temporarily) to see if that helps.

Are you using a pre-release version of Windows 10?
Can you exclude the Start Menu folders from Defender? There are two of them - one for the user and one for all users.

No, I never use pre-release Windows editions. My version is Windows 10 x64 Build 10586.164

I uploaded the memory dump to your mediafire account but it didn't give me a link to share

I named it: Phoenix - Start Menu Lag upon restart.zip

The dumps don't show anything interesting. In all of them Explorer is doing nothing. Either the slowdown was around one second or less, or it is not related to opening of the start menu.
Did you try excluding the start menu folders from Defender?
BTW, excluding ClassicStartMenu.exe is not going to help. That exe does nothing. The real work happens in Explorer. You can try excluding it too.

I disabled Windows Defender and installed Avast! Antivirus Pro and now the sluggishness/delays has completely gone.
