Using Windows 10 but i'm only using classic start menu (not classic explorer), accessing folders from pinned start menu shortcuts offers limited functionality:

Example:

Lets say you create a folder C:/myFolder and pin it to classic shell start menu

If you navigate directly to that folder you have complete control

If you navigate to the folder via the classic shell pinned shortcut it points to C:\Users\[USER NAME]\AppData\Roaming\ClassicShell\Pinned\myFolder

What made me notice this is that i could not create a new folder using the ribbon (and a lot of other stuff)...but, here's the kicker...you can right click and create a new folder!

Not a massive issue, but still an inconvenience. Shouldn't the pinned shortcut be just that...a "shortcut"?

Perhaps there is nothing that can be done about this but it got me scratching my head for a while before I realised what was wrong.

Yes I agree this is a limitation. As a workaround, right click the folder and choose Create shortcut. Cut this shortcut and paste it in %appdata%\ClassicShell\Pinned.

Brilliant, Thanks Gaurav, nice work around.

This works for my situation, but i can for-see issues, as the shortcut becomes a "basic" shortcut, and not one in which you can hold the mouse over to further expand the menu.

Again, not an issue for me because I don't particularly like the expanded menu (forcing a double click of the root folder to act as a normal shortcut to that folder).

Thanks again.

Steve.
