on my new Win 8.1 machine, hovering over the start button causes it to show either the CSM icon or sometimes the Start Menu icon. usually the CSM icon will open the CSM, but not always, sometimes it opens the metro screen. usually the Win 8 start menu icon will open the metro screen, but not always, sometimes it opens the CSM. Usually CSM performs the way it is supposed to, but some 30% of the time does not. Right clicking on the windows icon may show the right clicked windows options, and a moment later show the right-click CSM options. I have hover turned off, replace start menu button on, classic with 2 columns. I have re-run the installer, selecting the 'repair' option to no effect. ihave attached the xml file

Are you saying that just by hovering over the start button, the start menu shows up?

So clearly the button is not being replaced correctly. Which button image are you using?

Also make sure you don't have any other Start Menu replacements simultaneously installed and running.

yes, it is like the roll over is not working consistently.

everything i am discussing will be on the desktop. i do not have another start menu replacement on the computer. i do not have 'hover' on. I am using the 'aero' button in a 2-panel configuration.
sometimes when i move the mouse over the CSM start button to click on it, it will quickly change to the windows start button, as though there was a 'when over' command, and when i click on it, it will open the metro screen. sometimes it will stay the Aero button and open the CSM. this is intermittent. no saying when. if it changes to the windows start button, and i pull the mouse away, the button will go back to looking like the aero button, and the next time i go to click on the button, it will usually be the CSM button. sometimes i have to do this dance more than once.
thanks for your help

Ah, I understand now. You are getting the Windows button by hovering in the bottom left corner of the screen.

You need to disable the button. Go to the Windows 8.1 Settings tab and set "Disable active corners" to "Start screen". Your setting is currently "None".
