How do stop classic shell from automatically adding items to the top portion of the start menu. I know in Win 7 you right clicked taskbar and selected properties and disabled it there. With classic shell it only allows you to stop adding items to the jump list (bottom portion). I looked in advanced settings and didnt find a way to disable it, maybe I overlooked it. |

It is called "Show recent programs" near the bottom of the Special Items tab. It is also in the Basic Settings tab. |

That worked but now I am unable too pin the items I want to the start menu even after right clicking and selecting pin to start. |

Pin to Start pins them to the Start screen. You will need to drag and drop them to the area or paste shortcuts in %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu.
