After a 2-you update process upon reboot I was told that Windows was removing Classic Shell because it was harmful and the tile sccreen was forced on me.. However I just installed the latest version and the desktop has returned. Hopefully this will a permanent solution.

Windows 10 is a constantly changing OS so you will have to download updated Classic Shell versions if Windows 10 removes them.
