Classic shell is a brilliant application. I've used it for some time on W7, and just installed in on W10. However one thing you could do on W7 that it appears you cannot on W10 is shutdown without installing updates (if there were any). Can one get that back? |

You can disable the setting "Check for Windows updates on shutdown" in the General Behavior tab. |

Nope, it only stops the automatic check you can still go to settings and manually check for updates |

OK, thanks. Just to be 100% clear then, the ability in W7 to make a choice on shutdown whether to install updates or not has gone? What one would have to do not to install them would be (a) note there are updates, (b) stop shutdown, disable the classic shell setting 'check updates on shutdown', then (c) shut down while (d) remembering to re-enable it on next login (assuming one wants the choice again)? If so I must admit that's a pity. I really liked the old options. It gave me the choice on quickly shutting down a laptop to go somewhere to stop the update loading process if time was short. |

In Windows 7 you could not install updates and shut down. Classic Shell works the same way there. Windows 8 added that ability, but took away shutdown without updating. Again, Classic Shell followed the same scheme. You can of course always shutdown by typing "shutdown /s" in the Run box. |
