| Classic shell worked well for a long time. I had little reason to access the Windows 10 start menu, but I did confirm that it worked properly. That is, when I clicked on the "Start Menu (Windows)" icon, the built-in disaster provided by Microsoft was displayed and functioned as expected. Yesterday, I clicked on the same icon. A new small window (movable, not resizable, and always on top) stated "Critical error. Your Start menu isn't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in." There was also a box labeled "sign out now". Clicking this button did cause sign out. The problem was not fixed on sign in; nor was it fixed upon reboot. The rest of Classic shell continued to work. Desktop icons still worked. I uninstalled Classic shell and rebooted. The critical error remained; I now had no start menu, but the desktop icon for the File Explorer enabled me to locate and execute programs. I opened a command window and ran the program SFC /SCANNOW. It found errors but could not fix them. It created a very large log file, but I don't really know what to do with it. I reinstalled Classic shell which, again, works in all respects except the display of the windows start menu. Any suggestions? Thanks for your attention. | |

| This is a known problem with the Windows 10 start menu. It just breaks from time to time for no reason. The problem is not related to Classic Shell in any way. And I don't know what to do to fix it. | |
