Hi! I downloaded Classic Shell (like it a lot!), but I'am unable to open "classic start menu settings". When I press it, almost nothing happens: The mouse pointer and the horisontal menu line (with taskbar, clock etc.) flashes once; Also, sometimes the whole screen turns blue for a second.

The problem continues after reboot and reinstall. The other functions of Classic Sheel seem to work fine. I have Windows 8. Classic Sheel works just fine on another almost same model hp laptop (Pavilion dv5).

Thank you for help!
Gustav

what method are you trying to open it with? right click on the start orb, and choose settings. the top option is just for show and cant be clicked for whatever reason.., if this doesn't work, locate your install directory and
run(your install directory may be different):
"C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe" -settings

Sorry for the trouble you are having.

There are 2 possibilities. The anti-malware you are using on your computer is blocking ClassicStartMenu.exe or interfering with its behavior. Look in the settings of your anti-virus to whitelist C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe as a safe process, which tells it to exclude/not to scan it.

Another possibility is (and from your description it sounds like that) for some reason, opening Classic Start Menu settings is causing your Explorer.exe to crash.

If Settings still don't open and Explorer is crashing, you can capture a crash dump using the process described here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6 . Run procdump -e explorer.exe and then try to open Start Menu Settings which will crash Explorer. Upload the dump file here.
