Post subject:  All users Windows 10 start menu

Hello, i have configured all of the start menu settings fine via the registry and all works perfectly apart from the APPS and the Start Menu (Windows) shortcut.

I have removed it from a users classic menu settings and copied it as per the registry settings via HKCU and HKLM.

But the APPS and the Start Menu (Windows) shortcut still appears when a new user profile is created.

Does anyone have a way of stopping this?

Thanks
Rob

Which style of the menu are you using?

Try this Reg:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu]
"ShowAppsMenu_State"=dword:00000000
"ShowAppsMenu"=dword:00000000
"StartScreenShortcut_State"=dword:00000000
"StartScreenShortcut"=dword:00000000

These are the Group Policy settings to hide apps folder item and Start screen shortcut for all users. The easier way to configure them is via Group Policy templates. I just tried these. For a new user account, the apps item and Start screen shortcut do not show in the Classic style.

Thanks for the kind words about Classic Shell. You can show your support by donating too. :)

One more question i promise!

It thought i would have a go at using the policy templates as you suggested. I have loaded them fine and im using local group policy currently on a tablet device for Windows 10 Pro.

When i go into User Config and i want to remove the "Show Start screen shortcut" setting. If i want to remove it, which options should i be using? As the disabled function as per the notes do not work.

I have set it as enabled and then not ticker the show start screen shortcut box, but it still appears for new accounts that are created at login.

The same is for the APPs shortcut removal.

Would you mind letting me know the correct settings i need to do in Group Policy please.

Thanks
Rob

First you should know that "Computer Configuration" affects all user accounts on that PC and "User Configuration" affects only the currently logged in account.

The "Not Configured", "Enabled" and "Disabled" buttons are for the policy setting itself meaning simply to use the policy, you must set it to Enabled. Locked to this value means the setting for it will be disabled in the GUI.

The checkbox or whatever controls appear below this are the actual settings.

So, for "Show Start screen shortcut".
1. Make sure you are setting the policy under Computer Configuration.
2. Set policy to Enabled, Locked to this value and and checkbox unchecked.

For the changes to take effect for currently logged in account, you must log out and log in again. For other users, if the policy setting is configured before those accounts log in, it will be in effect immediately.
